Community
based natural resource management (CBNRM) is a new buzz
word within Botswana's tourism industry. The main
initiative is to promote rural areas and populations who
are patrons to surrounding natural resources. These may
include the likes of wildlife, forests, waterways and
much more. |

The
fine people of the Sankuyo Village, a very remote
village in North Western Botswana, are the proud owners
of 2 wildlife concession areas, granted to them by the
Botswana Government, the Tawana Land Board and the
Department of Wildlife and National Parks. It is this
wildlife resource that they own, run and manage and to
date is Botswana's most successful community based
project. They own and operate 2 high class tourism
facilities (Santawani
Lodge and Kaziikini
Campsite) and all proceed / profits are funneled
right back into this small community. |
